Open Position: Research Grant in Computer Science

HeartGenetics is recruiting a highly motivated researcher in the field of computer science or informatics.

The selected candidate is expected to conduct research in the development of Clinical Decision System to support Clinical reporting, in a project funded by HeartGenetics, Genetics and Biotechnology, SA, with the title “Validação da associação entre genótipo e fenótipo para a hipertensão arterial”Expertise in Computer Science or Informatics Engineering is preferred. International experience will be a plus.

Main research field: Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics

Required qualifications: The candidate should have a degree in Computer Science or Informatics Engineering and at least 9 months of professional experience in Boinformatics. Degree marks below 14 (out of 20) are eliminatory.

The candidate should also present:

1) professional experience in coordinating tasks with software development;

2) strong knowledge on technologies for programming web applications;

3) ability to work in an unsupervised environment and sense of responsibility;

4) knowledge about using or developing: Perl, Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS, JSON, Ajax frameworks, RESTful Web Services, SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL;

5) advanced user of Unix-like OS; and

6) mastery of the in English language.

Research planThe researcher will be involved in the development of a Clinical Decision System to support Clinical reporting. A specific software package will be developed to read and integrate clinical data with the assay results and deliver a comprehensive report for the medical doctor without human intervention.

Legislation: A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the “Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology” (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt), and HeartGenetics Grant regulations approved by FCT, and to the Status of Scientific Research Fellow (Lei nº 40/2004 de 18 de Agosto, and its successive amendments).

Place of work: The work will be carried out at the HeartGenetics, Genetics & Biotechnology SA Headquarters – Biocant Park, Cantanhede, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Ana Teresa Freitas.

Terms of employment: The fellowship will be for 12 months, eventually extended for 12 months depending in the performance of the candidate. The fellowship will start in January, 14th 2015.

Terms of salary: The monthly amount of the grant is in accordance with the values stipulated in the “Regulations for Research grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology” in force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt). The 745 Euros plus an extra HeartGenetics amount of 255,00€ plus Social Security reimbursements is included in the package and will be paid by wire transfer, according to FCT, I.P (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

Evaluation criteria : The candidate will be selected according to her/his computer programing skills and CV (30%), and experience in the area that is open for the current position (70%). An interview may be needed.

Publication of results: The results with the final classification will be sent to all candidates by email.
