As part of HeartGenetics’ strategic development, the company recruted new members to further develop its computational models. Meet the new team members below.
Nuno Mendes is a Software Engineer at HeartGenetics. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Information Systems and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and has a dual PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering by the Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon) and in Bioinformatics by the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1.
After working as a Senior Developer for 4 years during his BSc, he decided to pursue an academic experience in the field of Computational Biology. He was involved in the development of tools for the identification of cis-acting regulatory motifs, microRNA precursors and their targets, and qualitative modelling of gene regulatory networks, having published several papers in peer- reviewed journals.
Joana Rosado Coelho, an expert in Biostatistics and Data Analysis, is the new Director of Analytics at Heartgenetics.
Prior to working at Heartgenetics, Joana finished her PhD in Bioengineering and worked as a Research Assistant at INESC-ID. Joana has a background in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. She was a Teaching Assistant of Probabilities and Statistics for three years at Instituto Superior Técnico. Her professional achievements also include an experience in strategic consultancy at Arthur D. Little, where she was responsible for performing financial models of clean technologies projects with a strong focus on statistical analytics.
Joana was awarded with the best student prize of both Instituto Superior Técnico (2007 and 2008) and Technical University of Lisbon (2009).
