HeartGenetics is very honoured to announce Fausto Pinto as a new member of the advisory board.

Fausto Pinto is the President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC)Dean of Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, Portugal;  Head of Cardiology Dpt, University Hospital Sta Maria/CHLN, Portugal.

He graduated at Lisbon University Medical School in 1984. He did his Cardiology fellowship at Santa Maria University Hospital and Stanford University Medical School (CA, USA), where he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Clinical Attending in the Echocardiography laboratory. He did an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the same institution, where he stayed in the period 1989-1993.

He is Full Professor of Cardiology at Lisbon University Medical School, Lisbon. He is also the Director of Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute since 1999 and the Coordinator/President of Cardiovascular Center of Lisbon University (Centro Cardiovascular da Universidade de Lisboa, CCUL).

He was the President and founder of the European Association of Echocardiography (2002-04); Chairman of the CPC (Congress Program Committee) of ESC (2008-10) and Vice-President of ESC for National Societies and Affiliates (2010-12). He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), American College of Cardiology (FACC), American Society of Angiology (FASA), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College as well as Honorary member of several scientific societies, academies and universities.

He is a Full Member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine.

He published over 250 papers and has presented over 1500 lectures/chairmanships at national and mostly international meetings.

His main areas of interest are in cardiovascular imaging, particular on the use of ultrasound in cardiology.
